GHEDEX 2022 added an International Conference on Quality in Higher Education to their exhibition, sessions and panels will be held on March 28-29, 2022 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center. The sessions will have presentations from leading experts on key six topics, which are: Quality Assurance and Standards Monitoring in Higher Education; Accreditation and Equivalence in Higher Education, Oman Globalization and Higher Education, Opportunities for Women in Higher Education, Investment in Higher Education, and Development of Research Infrastructure.
The panels will focus on discussions on four topics, which are: Student Preparedness for Employment; Careers of the Future: Higher Education or Training/Skills; Study in Oman: the Roadmap to Attracting International Students; and Oman Future Skills Framework Implementation.
The Ministry of Higher Education was established in 1994 to promote higher education in the Sultanate in both government and private sectors. Then, the Ministry’s mission expanded to distribute universities and colleges geographically among the governorates and regions of the Sultanate, offering a variety of programs at all levels, such as diplomas, bachelors, and masters, covering a wide range of specializations in professional, technical, and administrative fields.
However, in 2020, the name of the Ministry of Higher Education was amended to the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation to encourage scientific research and innovation in accordance with the requirements of development in society and supervise scientific research centers affiliated with the Ministry. The ministry saw that the development of higher education is parallel to the scientific research activity seeking to develop scientific research in all aspects of life in order to enhance quality in education. Research in academic institutions is a direct contributor to Quality in Higher Education.
The International Conference on Quality in Higher Education is an effort to enhance Omani Institutions Global and Regional ranking to attract international students to study in Oman. It is a very important and timely conference to create awareness of how to develop and enrich higher education to include research and innovation and meet the outcomes to help students enter the job market by offering world class higher education here in Oman.
After 20 years of organizing the Ghedex exhibition which has about 40 Omani universities and colleges alongside 160 international universities from leading education markets such as USA, UK, Canada, France, Malaysia, and others; the organizers say “it is the right time for Omani Institutions to pay attention to quality, equivalence and accreditation in order to make study in Oman Vision a reality”
